A retrospective study on prevalence of anaemia in dogs

Abstract

Retrospective analysis of haemoglobin of 1749 randomly selected cases of dogs for the period from September 2014 to August 2015 was undertaken. Of these, only 784 were found to be anemic (Hb<12 g/dl). The prevalence of anaemia recorded was 44.83% with a mean haemoglobin concentration of 8.36±0.09 g/dl. The highest prevalence of anaemia was found for Labrador breed (39.80%) and lowest for Bulli (0.89%) and Mastiff (0.89%). The highest prevalence of anaemia in dogs was found for the month of May (14.41%) followed by July (10.97%) and August (10.08%).
