Abstract

A total of 290 urinary bladders from non-enzootic areas for Enzootic Bovine Haematuria (EBH) from three different regions of India viz. Chennai, Thrissur and Bareilly were studied. The histopathological examination revealed very low prevalence (1%) of benign neoplasms but epithelial abnormalities viz. hyperplasia and chronic inflammatory conditionslike lymphocytic cystitis predominated. Benign neoplasms, different pathological conditions and few normal samples of urinary bladder showed positivity for Bovine Papillomavirus-1/-2 by PCR. Few archival urinary bladders (transitional cell carcinoma-4, haemangiosarcoma-1, haemangioma-1 and adenoma-1) from EBH cases, benign neoplasms, chronic cystitis and hyperplasia cases were subjected to expression of H-ras biomarker by immunohistochemistry. Transitional cell carcinoma (3/4) and haemangioma (1) were found H-ras positive but rest of the cases, i.e., benign tumours and inflammatory conditions from non-enzootic areas failed to show H-ras positiveimmunoexpression.
