Abstract

Bone tumors are quite common in dogs but extraskeletal osteosarcoma is extremely rare. Extraskeletal osteosarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm which produces either cartilage or osteoid in the soft tissues or viscera, without any bone involvement. A male Labrador dog, six year old was presented to Teaching Veterinary Hospital, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana with a history of a solitary cutaneous ulcerating growth at the level of hip joint, since, last two months which was increasing in size gradually. There was neither any bone involvement nor any metastasis of tumor which was confirmed by radiographic findings. Complete blood count, radiography, fine needle aspiration cytology and histopathology of biopsy sample was done. Findings of fine needle aspiration cytology, radiography and histopathologic evaluation of the clinical sample suggested that the case was of osteoblastic osteosarcoma.
