Abstract

Five years old female crossbreed cow was presented to the veterinary dispensary, Sarankul, Nayagarh, Odisha. The animal had a hard swelling measuring about 5 cm in diameter at the level of right lateral chine region. The animal was operated and hard mass was removed successfully. Histopathologically, interlocking, wavy and parallel bundles of collagen fibers, spindle shaped fibrocytes, hyperchromatic fibroblasts with few mitotic figures and varying degree of vascularization were observed. Masson's trichrome staining revealed presence of blue stained dense collagenous fibers. Immunohistochemically, high degree of PCNA expression and mild to moderate expression of VEGF were detected. Based on the above findings, the case was diagnosed as cutaneous fibroma.
