Abstract

Fowl pox is viral disease affecting the poultry species mainly chicken, turkey and pigeons worldwide. It exists in two forms viz. cutaneous and diphtheritic form. Grossly, laryngeal opening was completely occluded by caseous material and trachea was severely congested. Microscopically, trachea revealed mucosal thickening due to the proliferation of epithelial cells with characteristic intracytoplasmic eosinophilic inclusion bodies. The collected samples were screened for the P4b gene of fowl pox through PCR. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the current FPV is closely related to the strains isolated from India and Brazil.
