Abstract

In the present study, we reported the distribution of different serotypes of Streptococcus suis from the diseased slaughtered pigs of India. Of 664 morbid tissues of slaughtered pigs, 41 were confirmed to be S. suis by PCR targeting the gdh gene. Majority of the isolates belonged to serotype 7 while serotype 2 was observed in few isolates. The majority of isolates possessed arcA virulence gene (85.36%) with mrp+, epf-, sly+, arc A+ genotype. The presence of virulence genes in our isolates may represent human health concern.
