Abstract

The present work has been conducted on Ven-cobb chicks in two different phases: Amelioration phase and withdrawal phase. For ameliorative study, 4 day old chicks were randomly allotted to four different groups i.e. group C as control, birds were administered diclofenac only @ 10 mg/kg b.wt. as group A1, birds simultaneously administrated diclofenac @ 10 mg/kg b.wt and allopurinol @ 25 mg/kg b.wt. as group A2 and birds simultaneously administrated diclofenac @ 10 mg/kg b.wt and febuxostat @ 5 mg/kg b.wt. as group A3. The treatment was continued for 21 days. After 21 days of treatment, six birds from each four groups were shifted for withdrawal study. The withdrawal study was conducted for seven days i.e. from 22nd to 28th day of experiment. During withdrawal period no treatment was given to experimental birds. All the birds which died during experimentation are sacrificed at end of study period in both phases were subjected to carry out different experimental parameters. The study mainly focused on determining the change in the level of serum electrolytes and trace elements. The findings showed that there wassignificant increase in the level of serum electrolytes which reduced to normal level by treating with allopurinol and febuxostat in gout affected broilers. The variation in the level of zinc was found to be non-significant among the experimental groups. Serum copper level was significantly lower in gout affected birds but significantly higher in treated groups. Iron level was found to be significantly reduced in gout cases and the anti-gout medicines did not restore to normal level. The study unveiled that both allopurinol and febuxostat restored the altered level of serum electrolytes and trace elements.
