The present study records the incidence of Anaplasma bovis in a Haematopinus tuberculatus infested buffalo calf at Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu, India. Lice were collected during necropsy of a buffalo calf died of aspiration pneumonia. Grossly, lice were dark and robust. Average length of the lice was 3.8 mm. Processed lice were females and had typical sucking mouth parts of Anoplura and identified as Haematopinus tuberculatus based on the thoracic sternal plate. Carcass revealed enlarged and congested prescapular lymph nodes and gangrenous lung. Microscopically, lymph node revealed severe medullary congestion and aggregations of macrophages with pleomorphic inclusions of Anaplasma bovis. Impression smear revealed presence of Anaplasma bovis inclusion in lymphocytes and macrophages. Peripheral blood smear showed severe anaemia.
