Abstract

A two and half year old crossbred cattle from state cattle breeding farm, Mizoram, was presented for post-mortem examination. The animal was sick for few days and was having clinical sign of respiratory distress. Internal examination revealed the presence of multiple nodules in the thoracic cavity, trachea and lungs. The mediastinal lymph node was enlarged and on incision it revealed gritty (calcified) and yellowish caseous exudates. Histopathological examination revealed typical tuberculous granulomatous lesions with Langhan’s giant cell. Ziehl Neelsen (ZN) staining of the impression smear showed the presence of large numbers of acid-fast bacilli which confirmed the case as Mycobacterial infection. The histopathological examination of the heart revealed the presence of Sarcocysts.
