Sixty five (65) colostrum samples were assayed for the total protein (TP), immunoglobulin G (IgG), enzymes gammaglutamyl transferase (GGT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) Immunoglobulin G (IgG) was assayed by ELISA. The assayed parameters were as follow: total protein (TP) 17.75 ± 0.79 g/dl and IgG 12.14 ± 0.82 g/dl, GGT 10211.17 ± 279.52U/L and ALP 2243.69 ± 188,13U/L. The huge amount of TP and IgG were found in the colostrums. The significant correlation was found between TP and the two enzymes GGT and ALP. The same correlation was also seen between colostrum IgG and both enzymes. Therefore, the amount of total protein, and enzymes GGT and ALP could help to judge the quality of colostrum which is a source of passive immunity to newborn calves.
