Three migratory flocks of sheep and goats on their downward migration during the period of 2005–2006, had history of rise in temperature (104°F – 107°F), anorexia, depression, purulent nasal discharge, dysentery, soiled anus, anemia and death within 48 h. Mortality of 2–7% in sheep and 3–15% in goats was recorded. Pathological studies revealed severe enteritis, lymphadenitis and pneumonia. Biochemical tests confirmed the isolation of Enterococcus fecalis. E. fecalis isolates had highest sensitivity to cephotaxime. Infected sheep and goats treated with cephotaxime injection along with supportive therapy, recovered completely.
