The antiulcer activity of absolute alcoholextract of C. giganteaflowerwas investigated in pylorus ligation and indomethacin induced ulcer models in experimental Wistar albino rats. Alcoholic extract of C.giganteaat a dose rate of 500 mg kg−1 and 1000 mg kg−1produced significant (P<0.01) inhibition of the ulcer index and score of intensity of ulcerin both models as compared to control group. In pylorus ligated ulcer models, the extract showed maximum reduction in ulcer index @ dose rate of 500 mg kg−1. Similarly, significant (P<0.01) reduction in gastric volume, total acidity, pepsin activity andprotein content of gastric juice was recorded as compared to control rats. In pylorus ligated gastric ulcer model, significantly (P<0.01) higher mucin activity, gastric wall mucus content, pH of gastric content and total carbohydrates were noted. The study indicated that C. giganteaflower extracthas potential anti-ulcer activity @500 mg dose than 1000 mg in all parameters studied.
