A four year old, seven month pregnant Jersey cross bred cow with a lacerated wound on the right lower eyelid was presented to the Large Animal Surgery Unit of Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital. On clinical examination, the eyelid was found to have a open wound which was infested with maggots. Ophthalmic examination revealed a normal globe and the vision was undisturbed. The wound was first treated for myiasis. After the control of infection and inflammation, the lower eyelid was sutured. The suturing was performed after auriculo-palpebral nerve block and local infiltration with 2% lignocaine HCL, using polyamide 3-0 simple interrupted pattern. The wound healed completely after ten days and the sutures were removed. The animal made an uneventful recovery.
