Abstract

A total of fifty (50) faecal swabs from the poultry farms were collected for investigation of E. coli. The prevalence of E. coli was found 70% identified on basis of cultural, morphological and biochemical tests. Antimicrobial resistance pattern revealed highest resistance for cefoxitin (100%), followed by enrofloxacin (77%), nalidixic acid (66%), doxycycline hydrochloride (49%) and least resistance against nitrofurantoin (6%). The highest susceptibility wasto nitrofurantoin (94%), followed by amikacin (86%), gentamycin (71%), doxycycline hydrochloride (51%), chloramphenicol (68.6%) and streptomycin (69%) where as some isolates showed nominal sensitivity against the nalidixic acid (34%) and enrofloxacin (23%). AMR pattern suggested nitrofurantoin as the most effective drug against E. coli.
