Transverse midshaft calcaneal fracture was created in 16 clinically healthy, adult mongrel dogs, under general anaesthesia The fracture was repaired by different internal fixation techniques viz tension band wiring (group A), stainless steel plating (group B), cancellous screw application (group C) and orthopaedic wiring (group D) (n=4) External support was provided up to 15 days in all the groups The comparison on the basis of intraoperative, clinical and radiological observations showed that among the four techniques, orthopaedic wiring was the most suitable technique for management of calcaneal fracture in dogs as it was easy to apply, less traumatic and provided adequate fixation leading to an early and uneventful recovery
