Twelve clinically healthy buffalo calves were randomly divided into three groups A, B and C. All the animals were subjected to post-xiphoid laparotomy under local infiltration anaesthesia. In animals of groups A and B, half and three fourth reticular resection was done, respectively. Whereas in group C, no reticular resection was done and it served as control. No complication due to the surgery was recorded in animals of any group. Clinically, the~ammals of groups A and C behaved more or less normal throughout the post-operative period Animals of group B, however, showed reduced appetite, mild tympany and passed scanty faeces up to the end of 3rd week after surgery. The study suggested that half of the reticulum can be resected safely without any clinically evident side effects.
