Powder and chloroform and ether extract ointments of Curcuma longa and Hellianthus annus were evaluated in the treatment of open wounds in buffalo calves. The study revealed better wound contraction and epithelialization in wounds treated with ether extract ointment of C. longa followed byether extract ointment of H. annus. Per cent healings tissue hydroxyproline, collagen and elastin were significantly higher in wounds treated by ether extract ointment of C. longa followed by H. annus (ether extract). The wounds treated with ether extract ointment of C. longa showed comparatively low value of tissue hexosamine as compared to that in wounds treated with the similar preparation of H. annus and other preparations of both the plants.
