Acute traumatic arthritis was induced in left radiocarpal joint with 1.0 mL of turpentine oil in twenty clinically healthy male buffalo calves divided into four groups of five animals each. Animals of group A served as control in which no treatment was given. The animals of groups B, C and D were treated with transfusion of fresh autogenous synovial fluid, fresh autogenous synovial fluid in combination with prednisolone acetate and gentamicin sulphate, and fresh homogenous synovial fluid, respectively. Synovial fluid examination revealed significant increase in total proteins, ALP, ACP and calcium while significant reduction ivas observed in glucose level at various stages of arthritis. Sodium concentration exhibited an increase of varying significance. Potassium and inorganic phosphorus showed almost insignificant variation. Most of the parameters returned towards the base line in treated animals of group C.
