Abstract

Antioxidant effects of dexamethasone, ascorbic acid and selenium in combinations were studied in 25 adult she buffaloes with diaphragmatic hernia. The results were compared with healthy animals and also with animals of diseased control group where no antioxidants were given. In diseased animals, the concentration of malondialdehyde and reduced glutathione in blood were significantly high. Combinations of various antioxidants in pre and postoperative treatment schedule failed to reduce oxidative stress in cases of diaphragmatic hernia in buffaloes.
