Abstract

Six healthy male cow calves aged 6–12 months weighing 70–100 kg were used for the present investigation. Each calf was subjected to 4 successive treatments viz. treatment I (centbucridine @ 0.3 mg/kg b. wt.), treatment II (centbucridine @ 0.8 mg/kg b.wt.), treatment III (centbucridine @ 0.3 mg/kg b.wt. + xylazine 0.05mg/kgb.wt.) and treatment IV (centbucridine @ 0.8 mg/kg + xylazine 0.05 mg/kg b. wt.) at lumbosacral epidural space. The duration of analgesia was 97.66±11.27, 133.33±12.29, 163.33±6.14 and 172.33 + 14.69 min in treatments I, II, HI and IV, respectively. Significant increase in the rectal temperature, respiration rate, pulse rate, total erythrocyte, neutrophil and eosinophil counts and significant decrease in lymphocyte count were observed in all the 4 treatment groups.
