A study was conducted in 36 non-descript cattle anaesthetized with xylazine-Icetamine-glycerylguaiacolate in 5% dextrose administered intravenously and maintained under halothane (groupl) or isoflurane (group II) in ltft lateral (subgroup A), right lateral (subgroup B) or dorsal recumbency (subgroup C) fou 30 min each. The mean induction time recorded was 2.221±0.11 min and the mean induction dose of xylazine, ketamine and glyceylguaiacolate in mg/kg were 0.03±0.02, 0.51±0.03 and 25.46±0.17, respectively. The mean sternal recumbency time (in mini in subgroups A, B and C were 19.50±1.34, 16.67±0.99 and 20.17±1.64, respectively, in group I and 14.67±11.40, 12.33±0.88 and 15.33±0.99, respectively, in group 11. The mean total recovery time (in inin) in subgroups A, B and C were 48.83±3.11, 45.50±3.01 and 52.00±2.33, respectively, in group I and 37.33±3.50, 34.1±53.55 and 40.67±2.85, respectively, in group II. The maen sternal recumbency and total recovery time were significantly (P<0.01) less in group II as compared to that in group 1 with no significant (P>0.01) difference between the subgroups.
