Abstract

Comparison of subcuticular sutures (group A) with tissue adhesive (group B) for closure of flank ovariohysterectomy skin incision was made using 6 female dogs in each group. The animals of both groups did not show any significant difference, histologically on 7th postoperative day. The healing was in early stage with more polymorphonuclear cells than connective tissue fibres but there was complete epithelialization with dipping except for one animal of group B, which showed complete straight epithelium. Collagen and elastin fibres were sparsely dispersed on 7th postoperative day in both groups except in one animal of group B, which showed ve y highamiount of collagen. On 14th postoperative day, both groups showed an advanced stage of healing with epithelium completely healed without any dipping along with high amount of collagen fibres and moderate amount of elastin fibres laid. One animal each on 7th and 14th postoperative days from group B showed fully developed glands and hair follicles than group A.
