Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate aqueous and alcoholic extract ointments of Adhatoda vasica and Berberis aristata in the treatment of open wounds in 30 Barbari adult male goats. The healing of wounds was evaluated on the basis of clinical observations, rate of healing and changes in histomorphological features. Thestudy revealed that wound contraction, epithelializatipn and per cent healing were excellent in wounds treafed with alcoholic extract ointment of A. vasica when compared with either alcoholic extract ointment of Berberis aristata or aqueous extract ointments of A. vasica and B. aristata. The alcoholic extract ointment of A. vasica caused better healing than alcoholic extract ointment of B. aristala. Similarly the healing was better in aqueous extract ointment of A. vasica when compared with aqueous extract ointment of B. aristata. It was evident from the results that the alcoholic extract ointment of A. vasica showed better healing ejfect and the order being alcoholic extract ointment of A. vasica > aqueous extvact ointment of A. vasica>alcoholic extract ointment of B. aristata>aqueous extract ointment of B. aristata.
