The present study was aimed at evaluation of urethral healing by urethrorrhaphy (n=6) and urethroplasty (n=6) in dogs. Retrograde positive contrast urethrogaphy using Urografin 76% revealed that the urethral lumen size was decreased in all dogs of group A (urethrorrhaphy). Urethral diameter was not altered in any of the dogs of group B (Rectus Abdominis Muscle Fascia (RAMF) pedicle graft urethroplasty). Histological studies revealed inflammation and severe degree of collagen fibers predisposing the dog for stricture formation in urethrorrhaphy site. Urethroplasty using RAMF pedicle graft showed adequate healing without stricture formation and least post-operative complications. The study revealed that RAMF pedicle graft urethroplasty was superior technique with adequate heeling and least postoperative complications than conventional urethrorrhaphy.
