Studies on influence of polypropylene mesh and nylon mesh on haematological and biochemical parameters during umbilical hernioplasty in calves

Abstract

Twelve cross bred calves with large umbilical hernia were used in this study. Umbilical hernioplasty was performed using polypropylene mesh (group A) or nylon mesh (group B). External pressure bandage was applied in both groups. The comparison on the basis of haematological and biochemical parameters showed better healing in calves which were repaired by polypropylene mesh than the nylon mesh.
