Eight clinical cases of acute abdomen due to lodgement of foreign bodies were divided into two equal groups. Animals of groups A and B were subjected to surgical operation under the anaesthetic combination of atropine+diazepam+thiopental sodium + sevoflurane and atropine + diazepam + thiopental sodium + isoflurane, respectively. The efficacy of anaesthetic combinationswas observed by determining the different clinical, physiological and haematobiochemical parameters. The onset and duration of anaesthesia and recovery time were 0.75±0.06, 112.5±3.2 and 16.37±0.31 min in the animals of group A, while in group B they were 0.67±0.04, 109.5±4.8 and 16.87±0.55, respectively. The values of HR, RR, RT, respiratory minute volume, haemoglobin, total leucocyte count, neutrophil, albumin, glucose, srum urea nitrogen, gamma glutamyl transferase, aspartate amino transferase, alanine amino transferase, sodium, potassium and chloride were higher in group A animals, while lower values of packed cell volume, total erythrocyte count, total protein and creatinine were observed in the animals of group A. On the basis of these parameters it was concluded that sevoflurane anaesthesia was better than isoflurane as it has least deleterious effects on the different body systems and provide more cardiac and respiratory stability.
