Twelve pups aged 2–3 months were divided into two groups (1 and 2) having equal number of pups. All the pups were subjected to the intramuscular administration of atropine sulphate @ 0.06 mg/kg body wt and diazepam @ 2 mg/kg body wt i.v. The anaesthesia was induced using mask, with isoflurane and sevoflurane in the animals of groups 1 and 2, respectively. Various clinicophysiological and haematobiochemical parameters were recorded at different time intervals to know the efficacy of these drugs and their effect on different body systems. Study of different parameters revealed that the induction of anaesthesia with sevoflurane was better than with isoflurane in young pups as it may be used with mask without any difficulties and provided better cardiac and pulmonary stability.
