Abstract

Ten adult horses of either sex were included in the present study for survey radiography of the digital region. Radiographic examination of the digital region of fore limbs and hind limbs was performed in lateromedial, anteroposterior and posteroanterior views. All the radiographs were interpreted and evaluated contemplating on the basis of history. Out of the ten horses, six did not have any history of lameness but were admitted for other illness. Distinctly, these six normal horses without the history of lameness demonstrated normal radiographic anatomy. Other two horses without any complaint of lameness depicted osteoporotic changes and periarticular ring bones. The radiographs of other two lame horses showed degenerative changes in collateral cartilages. One of these horses, additionally showed the presence of sinus tract suggestive of quittor. Further, radioosteometric assessment of length and width of phalanges was carried out. Survey radiography of phalangeal region of the horse was found useful in prediction of prognosis and confirmation of clinical diagnosis of lameness due to problems of the digital region.
