Abstract

The present study was carried out in five pups of either sex, with an average age of 2.4 months (1.5–3.0 months) and the mean body weight of 5.20 kg (4.5–7.0 kg). The animals were depressed, anorectic, had vomition, passed foul smelling, black watery faeces and prolapse of intestinal segment. The diagnosis of intussusception was made clinically and by sonographic examination. Differential diagnosis from rectal prolapse was made by digital rectal and sonographic examination. Besides these haematobiochemical parameters were also determined in each case and were correlated with the clinical findings. Abdominal ultrasonography was performed in both transverse and sagittal planes. Typical target like mass, bull's eye pattern with alternating hypo and hyperechoic concentric rings in transverse scan and multiple parallel, alternating hypo and hyperechoic lines in longitudinal/sagittal scan were the characteristic findings of intussusception. Laparotomy performed for treatment confirmed ileocolic intusussception in all the cases.
