A 2-year-old female German shepherd dog was presented with a history of anorexia, persistent vomition, significant weight loss and passing tarry faeces for 10 days. Ultrasonography revealed typical bulls eye pattern of the intestines characteristic of intussuseption. Plain radiographs of the abdomen were not diagnostic. Barium series revealed delayed gastric emptying and passage of small amount of contrast material into the intestines. Streaking of the intestines with the contrast agent was recorded on radiographs taken 2 hr after barium administration. Surgery was not undertaken immediately due to the poor condition of the animal and supportive fluid therapy was given to stabilize the patient. The animal collapsed on the subsequent day and postmortem examination revealed a linear foreign body (bandage) lodged in the pylorus and extending up to the jejunum. It was concluded that linear foreign body could mimic intussuseption on ultrasonogram.
