Abstract

Twelve healthy bitches presented for elective ovariohysterectomy were selected. Six bitches were selected for conventional method of ovariohysterectomy by flank approach (Group A) and other six bitches for laparoscopic method of ovariohysterectomy (Group B). Various physiological and hematobiochemical parameters were recorded pre-and postoperatively. Significant rise in rectal temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate was noticed in all the bitches. There was no significant change in haemoglobin level, total erythrocyte count, basophil count, eosinophil count and monocyte count in all the bitches. Significant leukocytosis, neutrophilia and lymphocytopenia were noticed in all the bitches. There was no significant change in alanine amino transferase and serum creatinine levels. Significant increase in aspartate amino transferase and higher pain score were noticed in Group A as compared to Group B. There was no significant difference in mean surgical time between conventional ovariohysterectomy and laparoscopic ovariohysterectomy.
