Cataract was observed in 25 (0.35%) dogs out of 7233 clinical cases presented to the Veterinary College Hospital over a ten-month period. The highest occurrence of 28% was seen in Spitz (7 out of 25) followed by 24% each in nondescript dogs and Labrador Retrievers (6 out of 25), 12% in Cocker Spaniels (3 out of 25), 8% in German shepherds (2 out of 25) and 4% in Lhasa apso (1 out 25). The average age of animals with cataract was 9.88 years. Sexwise, 48% cases were females and remaining 52% were males. Cataract was graded based on ocular examination and degree of opacification of lens: 20% (5 out of 25) cases were immature cataract, 68% (5 out of 25) were mature cataract and 12% (5 out of 25) were hypermature cataract.
