Twelve clinical cases of dogs with mature cataracts were selected and randomly divided into two groups viz., group A and group B consisting of six animals each. They were subjected to extracapsular extraction of lens with or without limbal sutures, respectively. Haematological and biochemical parameters were studied on day 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and at weekly intervals for four weeks. There was no significant change in haemoglobin (Hb) and total erythrocyte count (TEC), both within and between the groups. There was slight increase in total leukocyte count (TLC) on first post-operative day, which returned to normal by fifth postoperative day. The differential leucocyte count (DLC) revealed significant variation in neutrophil value. No significant change in lymphocyte, monocyte, eosinophil counts were observed either within or between the groups. Creatinine and alanine amino transferase (ALT) values showed no significant changes both within and between the groups and the values remained within normal range. Elevation in fibrinogen level post-operatively seen in both groups by 3rd to 14th post-operative day and returned to normal by 4th post-operative week.
