The study was conducted in 18 mongrel dogs randomly divided into three groups with six animals in each group. Interdental wiring, titanium mini plates, and gentamicin impregnated PMMA plates were evaluated in groups I, II and III, respectively. The plated animals (Groups II and III) showed trouble free use of mandible on 2nd day. Whereas, animals with interdental wiring used the mandible freely on 7th day. Infection was observed in animals treated with interdental wiring and titanium mini plate. Animals treated with PMMA plate did not show any infection. Tongue oedema and implant failure were observed only in interdental wiring. The radiographic evaluation revealed that plate provides stable fixation for mandibular fracture. Whereas, wire loosening and malocclusion problems were encountered with interdental wiring. The cost of the various devices were Rs.10 for wiring, Rs.350 for PMMA plate and Rs.1080 for titanium mini plate.
