Abstract

A male Spitz pup aged 4 months was presented with a complaint of lameness and swelling of right stifle joint following a fall from a height. On clinical examination pain and crepitus were observed at the proximal tibia. A mediolateral view radiograph revealed the avulsion fracture of tibia and fracture of the fibula at its upper third. Cross pinning was done to stabilize the tibial fracture using two K-wires, without involving the stifle joint. Fibular fracture was not attended. Postoperatively injections of Ceftiofur sodium and Meloxicam were administered for 5 days. Modified Thomas splint was applied for 3 weeks as external immobilization. The pins were removed at 4th week postoperatively to avoid premature closure of the growth plate. The patient was bearing weight on the operated limb without any deformity by 12th week.
