Two buffaloes and two crossbred cows were reported in the Veterinary Unit for treatment with a history of chronic tympany, complete anorexia and cessation of faeces for the last 5 to 7 days. All the animals had already been with antibiotics, fluid therapy, and para-sympathomimetics (neostigmin), and oral lubricants without any response. All animals were evaluated through clinical, hematological and biochemical parameters. On per rectal examination evidence of faecal material and gas evacuation was not found whereas, a hard mass was felt in upper right flank region in two buffaloes and one crossbred cow. Laparotomy was performed from the right side under local analgesia in standing position. In one buffalo and in one cow, intestinal intussusceptions were found, whereas in another buffalo ulcerative growth causing complete obstruction and necrosis of ileal part of intestine was detected. In another crossbred cow any abnormal structure could not be detected on rectal examination, hence exploratory laparorumenotomy was performed. After complete evacuation of rumen, the intestine was explored through rumen wall and a hard mass of intussuscepted intestine was felt in the right lower abdominal region. After closure of rumen, the mass of intestine was easily brought to the left flank incision site for anatomosis. The necrosed masses were excised in all the cases and end to end anastomosis using chromic catgut No. 1–0 in Lambart pattern was performed. One buffalo and two cows recovered uneventfully whereas, one buffalo having ulcerative obstruction and necrosis died after five hour of surgery.
