Abstract

Chronic otitis media was observed in two male camels aged 8 and 9 years, respectively. Previous medicinal treatment included injection of Streptopenicillin 5g for two weeks. The ear canal was cleaned with 2% hydrogen peroxide solution and Gentamicin ear drops were instilled. The condition responded temporarily and reoccurred. The ear canal was found inflammed in these animals, which posed difficulty in cleansing procedure of ear canal. A Zepp's operation was performed in these camels in the affected ear under xylazine sedation and local analgesia and lateral resection of vertical ear canal was done and a drain board was created in these animals. Post-operatively, based on Antibiotic Sensitivity Test animals were given injection Ampicillin-Cloxacillin 4 g BID intramuscularly for one week and injection Phenylbutazone 3 g intramuscularly for 3 days. Ear canal was flushed daily with 2% hydrogen peroxide solution. Discharge from ear ceased after one week post-operatively.
