Abstract

In the first phase the operation was conducted in two animals to standardize the tranquilizing and operation techniques. The estimated body weight of both animals was 30 kg and they were darted with a same total dose of 150 mg of ketamine and 15 mg of xylazine. Surgical site was prepared aseptically and the spermatic cords were exteriorised by separate incisions, and one centimeter of the duct was excised and the ends were ligated with catgut No. 1–0. Skin incision was closed with vicryl No. 0. The animals recovered uneventfully and came to normal activity by very next day. In phase two, 22 black bucks were vasectomised by following the procedure of phase one. The tranquilizing dose of katamine varied from 150 mg to 325 mg in combination with 15 mg of xylazine depending on the body weight. All the animals recovered completely without any casualties or complications.
