Abstract

A six-year-old Great Dane female dog was presented with a swelling involving the caudal left inguinal mammary gland, which had enlarged in recent one and a half month. On palpation, the mass was reducible and hernial ring was noticed. It was diagnosed as a case of inguinal hernia. The herniorrhaphy was performed under xylazine sedation and thiopentone anaesthesia. The hernial sac contained uterine horns with firm nodule shaped masses observable from outside. Inguinal ring was extended with scissors and ovariohysterectomy was performed. After the inner hernial sac was closed with Vicryl No. 1 suture, remnants dorsal to the ligature were removed. The inguinal canal and the opened abdominal wall were sutured with Vicryl No.1. Subcutaneous tissue and skin were closed routinely. Postoperatively, injections of Ceftiofur sodium and Meloxicam were administered for five days. The animal recovered uneventfully. On histopathological examination of the nodules, cystic endometrial hyperplasia-pyometra complex and focal adenomyosis were detected in the endometrium.
