Abstract

Urinary calculi were collected from 16 dogs presented to the College Hospital over a period of one year. Of these dogs, three were females and the remaining were males. All calculi in females were obtained from the urinary bladder, whereas those from the males were obtained from the bladder, urethra or both. The age of the dogs ranged from 2 months to 10 years. A wide variation in the morphological appearance of the calculi was observed. Calculi ranged from 1 mm to 5.5 cm in length. The colour of calculi ranged from black to pure white. Some of the calculi were smooth surfaced, whereas others had a rough surface. The shapes ranged from spherical to bilaterally flattened elongated forms. An attempt was made to “guesstimate” the mineral content of the calculi based on their morphological features.
