Abstract

A total number of 46 ophthalmic cases in dogs were treated during 2005–2006. Preliminary examination of eye using pencil light source and magnifying loope in dark room was done. Corneal reflex, palpebral reflex, papillary-light and menace reflex were checked in all cases. Sometimes indirect ophthalmoscope and fluorescent stripes were used. The current study revealed that cataract is the most common condition amongst eye affections followed by glaucoma, corneal opacity, corneal ulcer, dermoid, epiphora and hyphaema. Pomeranian breed is the most susceptible followed by GSD, Lhasa Apso, Labrador, Cocker spaniel and Dalmatian. Male were more affected than females. Adult age dogs between 11 to 15 years had higher incidence.
