An 11-year-old male, mongrel dog was presented to college hospital with history of dyschezia and hematochezia since last 3 months. On rectal examination, a soft painful, extramural mass was felt in the pelvic cavity causing almost 80% occlusion of the rectum. Under general anesthesia using thiopentone (25 mg/kg b.wt.), incision was made on ischeorectal fossa and the growth was enucleated by blunt dissection from the peri-rectal region. Post-operatively Ampicillin-Cloxacillin 250 mg i/m, daily for 5 days, wound dressing and removal of skin sutures on 8th postoperative day ensured an uneventful recovery. Histopathology of the mass revealed it to be Leiomyoma. There was no recurrence during 6 month post-operative period.
