A three-year-old Great Dane bitch was presented with a history of sudden swelling at the ventral abdomen. The swelling was increasing in size. Clinical examination revealed soft reducible swelling at anterior mid ventral region. The animal was restrained in dorsal recumbency and general anaesthesia was achieved using 2.5% thiopental sodium. The site was prepared aseptically and a linear incision was given over the swelling. On incising, intestinal loops were found herniating with slight adhesions. The adhesions were gently separated and intestines were pushed back into the abdomen. The hernial ring was closed by waist over pant technique using prolene. The subcuteneous tissue was sutured using chromic catgut by continous lock stitch pattern and the skin was sutured using silk by matress sutures. Antibiotic coverage was given for five days and animal was advised for restricted movements. Sutures were removed 12 days post-surgery.
