Abstract

A day-old calf with severe dog bite injuries was presented to the Veterinary Clinical Service Complex. Physical examination revealed widespread injuries with severely lacerated skin and underlying musculature. Wound involved caudal half of the entire dorsum up to the level of lumbosacral junction, right side ribcage including the entire right flank area and left upper flank region. The calf was weak and severely dehydrated with pale mucous membranes due to severe blood loss. It was administered with I/V fluids to restore normal circulatory volume. Wound was cleaned, debrided and protected with antimicrobial dressing. The calf was administered with Ciprofloxacin 10 mg/kg, I/V for 5 days, Gentamicin 4 mg/kg, S/C for 6 days and multivitamin injection on alternate day for 3 weeks. Over a period of 8 weeks an excellent wound healing was achieved. About 90% of the wound was covered by propagation of normal skin and hair growth.
