Abstract

A full term Saint Bernard bitch of about 5 years was reported with the complaints of straining, vaginal discharge and inability to deliver litter since 36 hours. Per-vaginal examination revealed that the cervix was dilated but the puppies could not be palpated in the birth canal. Laparotomy revealed torsion of left uterine horn at the bifurcation of the horns. Caesarean section was performed to deliver two live puppies from the right horn and one dead pup from the left horn. Since the left horn showed necrotic changes due to strangulation, the left horn was removed. The bitch showed uneventful recovery and had normal litter in the next whelping that occurred after 8 months.
