Abstract

Clinical studies on obstructive urolithiasis in calves were carried out with the objectives of comparing the efficacy of two surgical techniques in the management of the disease. The animals used were 20 clinical cases of obstructive urolithiasis, equally and randomly distributed in two groups. The confirmed cases of obstructive urolithiasis were managed either by tube cystostomy (group A) or cystotomy with indwelling urethral catheterization (group B). In all the animals, litholytic agents, anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics along with urine acidifiers were given. The surgical techniques were evaluated on the basis of clinical, haematobiochemical parameters, and postoperative complications. Haematobiochemical alterations returned to normalcy quicker in the animals of group A as compared to those of group B. The tube cystostomy was found easier and quicker with higher survival rate.
