Abstract

The study was undertaken in 10 adult non-descript dogs and 10 goats, weighing between 10 and 15 kg to document the sonographic imaging and measurements of kidney and urinary bladder. The left kidney was found in close contact with the greater curvature of the stomach at its anterior margin and the spleen at its dorso-medial aspect. The right kidney was found in close proximity with the caudate liver lobe cranially. Scanning of ventral abdomen in goats did not provide good image of both the kidneys when compared to dogs. Kidneys were best seen on standing position from lateral abdomen at paralumbar fossa placing the scan head cranio-dorsally. Resolution of the left kidney was good. There was no significant difference between the measurements and average volume of left and right kidneys. In dogs and goats, the urinary bladder could be scanned from ventral abdomen using trans-abdominal transducer and gave comparable results.
