The present clinical study was carried out in 10 Kankrej and two crossbred cattle suffering from tibia fracture. After intramedullary pinning they were randomly divided in two groups of six animals each. In group-I,external support was carried out with bamboo splints; whereas, in group-II, ‘Jalaram Assembly’ was fixed. Clinical observations revealed mild to moderate swelling and some exudation in early postoperative days in both groups. Occasional limping and moderate rotation of distal fragments with proximal migration of Steinmann pins were observed in group-I animals while in group-II animals no such complications were noticed. Complete weight bearing was evidenced in 23 to 39 days in group-I and 15 to 42 days in group-II animals. Radiographic evaluation showed large callus formation in group-I but small sized callus in group-II. It was concluded that after intramedullary pinning, instead of bamboo splints support the ‘Jalaram Assembly’ was a better orthopedic modality for rigid fixation and prevent axial rotation and compression of tibia.
