Abstract

Ten cross-bred cows aged 3–7 years were presented with the history of anorexia, depression, cessation of defecation and colic signs. Clinically all the animals were dull with varying degrees of abdominal distension. Per-rectal examination revealed empty rectum and presence of sausage-shaped firm mass cranial to pelvis in all the animals. Trans-rectal ultrasonography using 6.5 MHz probe revealed bull's eye sign with distended caudal loops. Enterectomy followed by enteroanastomosis by single layer Cushing suture technique using chromic cat gut No. 2/0 in standing animals through right flank laparotomy under para-vertebral nerve block gave excellent results in all the cases.
