Abstract

The study was carried out to develop instruments, implants and procedure to carry out hip joint resurfacing surgery in Labrador and German shepherd dogs. The specifications derived out of 10 bone specimens satisfactorily met the requirements to design instruments and implants on trial conducted on bone specimens and cadaver. Application on one clinical case revealed that instruments were well suited for their operability and implants fitted perfectly. Infection in hip joint surgery is a major concern for failure, which requires to be addressed as occurred in the present case. The results of this study need to be tested in large number of clinical cases before recommending for routine clinical use.
